Depending on where you live, the certainty of a severe winter isn’t always guaranteed and Brands are understandably hedging their bets with their offers of winter outerwear, offering a greater variety of shorter, lighter and more versatile pieces. Many menswear brands rely heavily on outerwear to sustain their business and have sustained substantial losses in recent seasons due to the unpredictable temperatures of increasingly warm winters.
We look here, in GEARING UP FOR WINTER – PART 1, at some of the alternative Outerwear on offer, which will keep you warm but won’t reach to your knees. Key this Winter are THE GILET, THE BOMBER and the POLAR FLEECE, as well as variations on the Winter Blazer, Super Lightweight Down and Lighter weight Performance Jackets. Knitwear Jackets and Heavy Sweatshirts are also being sold as alternatives to typical winter outerwear. What’s also great about many of these shorter and lighter styles is that they can always be layered, later in the season, with overcoats and parkas if the weather does get really nippy.
